Age grouping has always been a challenge for Mini Rugby. We are very aware of size differences relative to the athlete’s safety. There can be wide discrepancies, particularly at the onset of puberty. On the other hand clubs do not have sufficient players and we have found the need to group in two year age clusters to ensure teams for competition. In Vancouver, competition based on school grades is played although clubs seem to have greater numbers. Competition based on weight limits may prove to be the fairest and safest and may become a reality in the not too distant future. Clubs on the Island are constantly discussing ways which the game can be grown in a safe and skilled fashion.
Age Divisions for the 2009/10 season are as follows:
- U14 – Born 1996, 1997
- U12 – Born 1998, 1999
- U10 – Born 2000, 2001
- U8 - Born 2002, 2003
